Portraits of Women
The "Women’s Portraits" initiative is a community-driven effort supporting women in the Znamensky and Domachevsky village councils of the Brest district.

Founded in 2019, the initiative aims to transform traditional perceptions of household responsibilities, which often limit women’s opportunities for personal and professional growth.

We strive to create an equitable and progressive community where women feel supported and have access to diverse educational and psychological resources.

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to foster the development of a conscious community in the Znamensky and Domachevsky village councils based on shared European values, principles of gender equality, and democracy.

We believe in a future where household responsibilities in families across our region are distributed more fairly, and women’s roles are genuinely recognized and respected.

Our goal is to challenge traditional family roles and strengthen women’s positions in society, helping them unlock their potential through personal and professional development, psychological support, and informational awareness campaigns.

Why It Matters

The unequal distribution of household responsibilities often becomes an insurmountable barrier to women’s self-realization. In the families of our region, it is traditionally women who bear the bulk of household duties, limiting their ability to participate in public life, pursue professional growth, and nurture personal connections.

A survey conducted in the Znamensky and Domachevsky village councils revealed that 82% of respondents consider household responsibilities exclusively a woman’s duty. Such attitudes hinder the development of equitable relationships in families and restrict spousal collaboration, ultimately diminishing the potential of both families and their members.

The "Women’s Portraits" initiative seeks to address this issue by creating a supportive and empowering community.

Our Activities

1
Building a Self-Help Community
Creating a safe space for women to share experiences, discuss household challenges, and collaboratively find solutions is one of our main focuses. Our meetings help foster horizontal connections, aiding women in self-discovery and understanding their possibilities for personal growth and self-realization.
2
Providing Relevant Information
Our initiative conducts regular informational campaigns and transformational programs aimed at raising awareness about gender equality issues. We organize public discussions, film screenings, seminars, and workshops to highlight the importance of equal participation in household responsibilities for all family members.
3
Training and Self-Development Programs
To support women entering the job market and strengthening their roles in society, we offer courses and training to help them acquire new professions and skills. This also includes employment counseling, contributing to economic independence.
4
Psychological Support
Our community hosts specialists who provide psychological assistance to women facing challenges in family life and social adaptation. Our psychologists help overcome stress and insecurity, fostering personal growth and unlocking potential.

Our Achievements

Since its foundation, the initiative has successfully implemented numerous programs that empower women in the Brest district to gain confidence, achieve equal treatment in their families, and share their accomplishments more boldly.

We have organized over 50 events, including training programs, transformational marathons, workshops on employment skills and additional education, psychological support seminars, and sessions for teenagers on household equality. Additionally, we’ve hosted exhibitions, community picnics, and much more.

These activities have provided a platform for open discussions on personal challenges for more than 1,200 participants, offering support and inspiration.

Our Role in Society

"Women’s Portraits" is more than an initiative — it is a driving force for change in our region.

We aim to create a community where women don’t have to choose between family and self-realization.

We encourage partnership relationships in which every family member respects the efforts of others and shares household responsibilities, making their roles fulfilling and equitable.

The "Women’s Portraits" initiative continues to grow and evolve, breaking stereotypes and empowering women to realize their potential, regardless of circumstances or traditional norms.
